The University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2018 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. UNI beat the Evansville Purple Aces Thursday at Scottrade Center 60-50 to open this yea's tournament.

UNI (16-15 overall) held Evansville's Ryan Taylor, the MVC's leading scorer at 22.1 points per game, to a season low two points. Taylor was 1-for-13 from the field as he was harassed by Isaiah Brown, Wyatt Lohaus and Klint Carlson throughout the evening.

Evansville (17-15 overall) shot 38.2 percent from the floor and was only 2-of-14 from three-point range (14.3 percent).

UNI's balanced scoring attack was led by Lohaus with 15 points. Hunter Rhodes added 14, while Carlson chipped in with nine and Bennett Koch posted eight points.

The Panthers tied a season-high with seven blocked shots.

UNI advances to the quarterfinals to take on No. 1-seeded Loyola on Friday at noon.
