Seven games took place on the opening day of the 2016 Iowa High School Girls Basketball State Tournament. Here is our day one (Feb. 29, 2016) recap and results of all seven games.

All of the Class 1A semifinal matches are set. Three of the four teams are locked into the Class 2A semifinals. Both of the number one seeds advanced including one team still undefeated.

No. 1 Turkey Valley continued their incredible season. It is the Trojans' first trip to the statet tournament, and they improved to 25-0 when they beat  Mount Ayr (18-8), 55-51.  (Read More, Box Score)

A big second half helped Burlington Notre Dame (24-1) secure the quarterfinal win. Notre Dame's Riley Kilbride had a big game to help her teammates put down Kee (22-3), 56-44. (Read More, Box Score)

Third-ranked Springville (24-1) jumped to a big lead, then held on down the stretch to beat No. 6 Kingsley-Pierson (21-3), 60-53. (Read More, Box Score)

Newell-Fonda (19-6) is another step closer to a fourth-straight appearance in the Class 1A championship game. The Mustangs upset  Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton (23-1), 53-42. (Read More, Box Score)

Western Christian (23-2) opened a big lead before settling for a 61-50 victory over No. 8 Central Decatur (23-2). (Read More, Box Score)

After finding themselves down as much as 14 points down, a 17-1 run gave Okoboji its first lead late in the third quarter. The Pioneers (24-1) put down  Pekin (24-2), 48-44. (Read More, Box Score)

No. 2  Iowa City Regina (24-0) plays No. 7  Manson-NW Webster (20-4) at 10:00 AM to start day two at the state tournament.
