Former UNI Wrestler Secures Spot at Olympic Trials
Former Panther Joe Colon secured a spot at the 2016 Olympic wrestling trials set for April in Iowa City, Iowa.
Colon notched tech falls over Kenneth Anderson and Bradley Pataky before pinning Nathan Tomasello in 5 minutes, 22 seconds. His run for the title was cut short when he got pinned by Sam Hazewinkel, a former Olympian.
Colon forfeited his final matches to take sixth place. The top seven finishers advance to compete at the trials, which will be held April 9-10 in Iowa City, Iowa.
Colon took third at 133 pounds at the NCAA Division I Championships in 2014. It was the highest finish of any UNI Panther since 2005.
