Davenport Speedway Announces 2016 schedule

The Friday night lights will be burning brightly this season at the Davenport Speedway. The 2016 racing schedule is chock-full of special events and featured guest classes.

The season will get a jump start with second running of the REBEL 5K held on Friday, April 8th. The event is highlighted by IMCA Late Models racing on the quarter-mile track. Also racing at the REBEL 5K will be Modifieds, Street Stocks, and SportMods

The following Friday, April 15th, the racing action jumps over to the half-mile track on for the 3rd annual Midwest Sanction Showdown. The event features the cars and stars of the MARS DirtCar Series as they compete with the top guns of the Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series. The late models will be joined on the track by Modifieds and Street Stocks.

The Lucas Oil MLRA late models will return to the Davenport Speedway on Friday, May 6th, as the open late models tackle the quarter-mile oval. The Modified, Street Stock, and SportMod classes will be racing for track points.

The Iowa Governor’s Cup, the official stock car championship of the State of Iowa, moves up on the calendar this season. The 2016 version of the Iowa Governor’s Cup will again have a two-night format. On Thursday, June 30th, races will be held on the half-mile oval, with the second night’s action (July 1st) on the quarter-mile track. A point system will be used to determine the state champion. IMCA Late Models will be the featured class at this year’s Iowa Governor’s Cup.

For the sixth straight year, the Davenport Speedway will offer $2,000-to-win specials for each of our weekly support classes. The IMCA Mod Madness will be held on May 20th, with the Sport Mod Challenge on June 10th. The Street Stock Clash will take place on August 12th.

The battle for the 2016 Davenport Speedway track championships will start with the Season Opener on April 22nd, and conclude with Season Championship night on August 26th. Weekly racing classes will be IMCA Late Model, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and IMCA Sport Mods. The 4-Stock class has been dropped for the 2016 season.

Five guest classes will appear at Davenport Speedway in 2016. INEX Legend Cars will compete at Davenport on May 13th and June 3rd. Mod Lites will appear on June 24th and July 15th. The American Iron Racing Series will visit the Davenport Speedway three times, May 6th, June 17th, and August 26th. The Midwest Jalopies return on July 22nd and August 12th. The Vintage Racing of Illinois car will visit Davenport on September 10th, for the Night of Destruction.

Racers will get a chance to try out their new rides for 2016. An open practice will be held, on Friday, April 1st.

The Davenport Speedway is located at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, on West Locust Street in Davenport, Iowa. Pit gates will open at 4:30pm, grandstand at 5:00pm, with hotlaps at 6pm, and racing at 6:30pm.
