Jack Ahcan scored 1:42 into overtime and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders edged the Waterloo Black Hawks 3-2 at Cedar Rapids Ice Arena Saturday (Feb. 27, 2016).

Ahcan cruised into the offensive zone on left wing and wired a shot under the crossbar from the circle. Luke Morgan created the rush with a diagonal pass through the neutral zone. Despite the final, Waterloo picked up a standings point for the fifth consecutive game.

Nick Swaney had scored the only first period goal during the shift after a Black Hawks power play ended. At 8:10, a deflected shot came to Swaney in the slot, and Waterloo’s leading scorer slid his chance past goalie Ben Blacker.

Shane Bowers added to the lead 1:15 into the second period, redirecting Michael Davies’ shot from the left point while standing at the top of the crease. Cedar Rapids drew back within one goal at 4:29 as Ross Colton snapped a puck into the net from the left circle during a power play. It was the only conversion during nine combined power plays occurring in whole or in part during the middle frame. The teams combined to finish the night 1-for-12 in special teams situations.

Cedar Rapids tied the contest 4:35 into the third on Will Garin’s transition wrist shot.

Waterloo wraps up a three-game weekend Sunday on home ice against the Des Moines Buccaneers. After the 3:05 contest concludes, skate with the Black Hawks at Young Arena, and during the game, meet the characters from the movie Minions, presented by U.S. Bank.
