A death investigation is underway in Waterloo.

The probe began Tuesday afternoon when someone found a body on the canopy of the entrance to Cedar River Tower Apartments, 106 East 3rd Street. Police officers and paramedics could be seen on top of the canopy shortly after 5 PM. Authorities later removed a body from the canopy roof.

Waterloo police have not released any information on the victim or other details involving the case. It's not yet known if the remains are linked to the 10-day-old disappearance of a Waterloo woman, who lived at the nine-story apartment building.

Sharla Davis, 54, was last seen in the downtown Waterloo area on June 15. According to police, her last social media activity was on June 16.

Davis is described as a 5-foot, 2-inch white female with black hair and hazel eyes. She weighs about 165 pounds.
