Waterloo won on the road Friday at Des Moines and then fell at home Saturday vs. Sioux Falls...as they hold on 2nd place in the Western Conference

FRIDAY NIGHT VS DES MOINES
The Waterloo Black Hawks went on the road for the first time in more than two weeks and brought back a 4-2 victory from their Friday trip to meet the Des Moines Buccaneers. The win followed a season-long five-game home stand.  Waterloo won all of those games; Friday’s result pushed the Hawks’ win streak to eight.

Waterloo's first goal of the night came from Solag Bakich, when he cut to the net through the left circle, arriving on time to receive a pass from Emil Ohrvall. Bakich redirected the feed past the goalie. Later, Vladislav Firstov turned above the right circle and toward the slot. Rather than shooting, he snapped a pass to the bottom of the opposite circle. Matej Blumel was on the receiving end and roofed his shot under the crossbar. Firstov was involved again just over two minutes later. He connected with Joe Cassetti, who returned the puck across the top of the crease, leaving an open side for Firstov to knock it in. Bakich extended the lead to its widest margin during a power play in the third period. This time coming from the right instead of the left, he received a pass out of the left corner from Griffin Ness and lifted in the puck.

Logan Stein earned the win with 25 saves.

Area teachers participated in a "Dash 4 Cash" contest for a chance to pick up money off the ice in an effort to improve their classrooms. The Black Hawks effort fell short Saturday night. All five Sioux Falls Stampede goals came in the third period, erasing a two-goal Waterloo lead and ending the Black Hawks’ eight-game winning streak in a 5-2 result that favored the visitors at Young Arena. Albeit, two of those goals were empty-netters very late in the game. The Black Hawks had scores from Matej Blumel and Connor Caponi.
