The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders scored twice in each period and pulled away from the Waterloo Black Hawks for a 6-2 win at Cedar Rapids Ice Arena Saturday.

The RoughRiders capitalized on their first shot of the night 4:32 into the game. Aidan McDonough lifted his try under the crossbar from inside the left circle on a two-on-one rush. McDonough found the net again during the opening seconds of a power play at 9:57. Logan Stein saved a long shot, but the puck came rolling off the end boards, and McDonough stuffed it in past Stein’s right skate.

A power play conversion in the second brought the Hawks temporarily within one. Vladislav Firstov struck from the right circle at 2:18. But the RoughRiders went back ahead by a pair on a Liam Walsh power play deflection at 11:57. Almost three minutes later, McDonough completed his hat trick on the rebound of a Walsh shot.

In the opening minute of the third, Jordan Tonelli added the third Cedar Rapids power play goal on a shot from the right circle. Firstov scored his second power play goal of the night at 2:21, recording the tally on a three-on-two rush with a setup from Matej Blumel.

The Hawks couldn’t get any closer, and Will Zmolek contributed the final goal, banking the puck off the dashers from his own zone and into an empty net at the other end of the rink with just under two minutes to go.

The Hawks’ road swing continues this weekend in Plymouth, Michigan, with games against the U.S. National Team Development Program Friday and Saturday.

Waterloo’s next home games are December 7th versus Madison and December 8th versus Cedar Rapids. For tickets, call the Domino’s Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680
