Disclaimer:  I'm not Joanna Gaines.  I do love Farmhouse style just as much as she does though and my house in Rochester, Minnesota is slowly transforming into a Farmhouse masterpiece.  And, if I could shiplap a pumpkin, I would.

I haven't figured out how to put shiplap on a pumpkin yet but I did find a few other cute ideas that require ZERO carving...which also means, no touching all the goopy gross parts inside.  Yeah, I'm not a fan of the guts and seeds and all the stringy stuff in those pumpkins...or that smell!

Fun Way To Decorate Pumpkins With String and Nails

  1. I found a great stencil to use, just like the stencils that can be found for free at this link (Paw Patrol, "Boo", Taylor Swift's face, Disney characters...so many options for free to download here).
  2. Grab a box of nails, a hammer, and some colored yarn or string.  The size of the nails really doesn't matter but I used a few different sizes.
  3. Place your stencil on your pumpkin using tape.
  4. Hammer the nails into the pumpkin following the stencil pattern.  You decide how far apart you want to place the nails but I'd suggest in the corners to place them a little bit closer together to help create the curve.
  5. Tie the string/yarn on one nail and start winding it around the nails in the pattern that you are wanting to create.
  6. For a little extra fun, I had some fake flowers and bunched them up and nailed them in around the stem of the pumpkin.

Check Out These Other Creative Ways to Decorate a Pumpkin Without Carving It

Here are a few other great links and ideas to check out if you'd rather not touch the guts when you are decorating those pumpkins:

  • Use crayons!  Hot glue some colored crayons on your pumpkin and use a hairdryer to melt them.  The wax will fall around the edge of the pumpkin and create a great look.  Take a look and learn more here.

Paint & Push Pins.  Paint your pumpkin a gorgeous color and use push pins that are flat or a specific color to spell out a word.  Here's one idea that has a pumpkin that has the word "Eek" on it.

  • Create fun characters from your kids' favorite movie.  I'm not sure I've got the talent for this one but it is sure cute!  Check out this Olaf from Frozen that was made with a few cute pumpkins, sticks, and some paint.
