An Eastern Iowa man has died in a 3 vehicle accident in Mount Vernon.

Shortly after 4:30pm Thursday (June 7), emergency personnel from numerous agencies were summoned to a traffic accident on Highway 30, west of 10th Avenue.

49 year old Curtis Rawson of Mount Vernon was driving east, when his pickup crossed the center line and struck a car and another pickup.

The driver of the car was killed; he was identified as 70 year old John Kerr of Lisbon. Rawson was flown to University Hospitals in Iowa City, to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The occupants of the other pickup, Royce and Sandra Lehrman of Mechanicsville, were not hurt.

The accident prompted closing the highway between Willow Creek Road and 10th Avenue, for about 3 hours. According to the Linn County Sheriff, all of the individuals involved in the accident were belted in their vehicles.
