A recent house fire in Cedar Falls has turned fatal. Officials confirmed that a woman pulled from her burning home died over the weekend.

Melissa Jensen, 42, was being treated at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. She was pronounced dead there by the Johnson County Medical Examiner shortly after 6:30 PM on Saturday, Cedar Falls Fire Chief John Bostwick said.

According to Bostwick, an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of Jensen's death. It could be several months, though, before those results are released.

Jensen was pulled from her burning home at 2216 Victory Lane Thursday afternoon. Bostwick said firefighters found Jensen unconscious about 20 feet from the locked front door after they forced entry inside the house. Public safety officials also discovered two cats locked in an idling car on the property, along with pet food and supplies.

Bostwick said blaze started in the basement, which suffered significant damage. The cause hasn't been determined. The State Fire Marshal is assisting with the investigation.

Records show that there have been more than a dozen police calls for service at the home on Victory Lane in recent years.
