A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect today (Feb. 5, 2018) from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM. Up to seven-plus inches is possible in northeast Iowa, where many schools are dismissing classes early.

The Winter Weather Advisory effects all of northeast Iowa, and a majority of the rest of the state.

The National Weather Service in Des Moines is calling for widespread snow across most of Iowa. The heaviest snow is forecast to fall from mid-late morning through mid-afternoon. Visibility may be reduced to dangerous levels for travelers in the area.

According to the NWS forecast, "Snow, moderate at times from mid morning until mid afternoon then diminishing. Visibility to one half mile at times. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected."

As you can see from the map above, the I-380 corridor is expecting to receive as much as seven inches of snow today.

Snow is also in the forecast for the area again by Thursday, and it is expected to continue through the weekend. Snowfall accumulations may occur each of these days possibly resulting in travel issues.
