The city of Waterloo will have a new leader in January.

Mayor Buck Clark announced Monday that he will not seek re-election to serve a fourth term when his current tenure in office expires Dec. 31, 2015. Clark's decision means his name won't be on the ballot for the municipal election on Nov. 3.

Clark was first elected Mayor of Waterloo in 2009, winning a three-man race to succeed Tim Hurley. Clark beat current city councilman Steve Schmitt in a run-off election.

In 2011, voters overwhelmingly re-elected Clark to a second term in office. He won a third, two-year term in 2013, again edging Schmitt.

Before his election as mayor in 2009, Clark served the city in other capacities. He represented Ward 3 residents on the city council from 2002 to 2005 and previously worked 18 years as a police officer in Waterloo, a job he left to become a business owner.

Clark, who turns 66 in August, said he decided to retire as Waterloo's mayor to spend more time with his family. So far, two candidates have emerged to succeed him.
