Waterloo’s John Emerson Leads Late Model Sunday Series Points

Waterloo's John Emerson leads the IMCA Late Model Sunday Series point standings as the tour approaches the mid-point of the 2015 season.

Emerson, the 2014 IMCA National Late Model Rookie of the Year, has had a strong start through the first four (of ten) races on the schedule. The twenty-six year old has finished in the Top 5 in all four races including one win that came on June 7 at Stuart International Speedway.

Hot on his heels in the point standings is veteran Todd Cooney. The Des Moines driver sits just four points back thanks to his three Top 5 finishes. His one finish outside the Top 5 was an 8th place finish this past weekend at the Benton County Speedway.

Charlie McKenna of Clear Lake sits in third, just nine points back of Emerson.

Omaha, NE's Corey Zeitner won the series opener on May 17 at Stuart. Ryan Dolan of Lisbon, IA claimed the win on May 31 at Benton County. Jon Passick won the most recent IMCA Late Model Sunday Series event on June 21 at Benton County.

The IMCA Late Model Sunday Series consist of ten races traveling between the Benton County Speedway in Vinton and the Stuart International Speedway in Stuart. Each track scheduled five dates each to make up the ten days on the 2015 schedule.

Race number five is slated for July 5 at Stuart. The final two dates for SIS are August 2 and August 23.

Benton County brings the traveling series back on July 26. The Sunday Series returns on August 9 and August 30.
