For the second time in about a month, a person is rescued from the rushing waters of the Cedar River below the dam in Cedar Falls.

The latest rescue happened around 5:30 p.m. Sunday (May 14, 2017) when firefighters and police officers pulled a young Waterloo woman from the water. Authorities said Chloe Adams, 18, was walking along the shore watching a friend fish when she slipped into the river near the Ice House Museum. She was briefly pulled under the water by the swift current, before resurfacing in a calm area.

According to police, an officer used a rescue disk with attached line to pull Adams onto a pier. A rope was then used to bring her safely to shore.

Adams' rescue occurred in the same area of the Cedar River where a Waterloo man fell into the rough water on April 13 and later died. Anthony "Tony" Romero, 41, slipped on a large rock while fishing and apparently became unconscious when he was caught in the strong current. A police officer pulled Romero to the shore, but he died three days later at a local hospital.
