Police found a handgun during a traffic stop and arrested two people in Waterloo Wednesday night (April 8, 2015).

Christine T. Williams, 28, of Cedar Falls, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon (by aiding and abetting a felon), carrying weapons, providing false information and driving with a suspended license.

A passenger in her vehicle, Marcus Sykes, 19, of Waterloo, was arrested on a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.

The arrests were made after officers stopped the vehicle Williams was driving in the area of Mitchell and Bourland avenues. During the stop, officers said they located a SCCY CPX-2, 9mm handgun in the console between the seats.

According to police, Williams admitted that she had just purchased the handgun and gave it Sykes. Court records show that Sykes was convicted of trafficking in stolen weapons on Nov. 27, 2012. The felony conviction means he is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Williams and Sykes were later released from jail.
