Waterloo Police are apparently getting plenty of experience in handling chases: they had 2 pursuits in less than 24 hours.

The first incident started just before 10pm Wednesday, when officers attempted to stop 39 year old Michael Menton.

Waterloo police tried to pull Menton over on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, but he refused to stop, leading squad cars on a slow speed chase, reaching speeds of 10 to 15 miles an hour. Menton was stopped after authorities deployed stop sticks and flattened the tires on his SUV.

The Tri-County Drug Enforcement Task Force then searched Menton's home, and found evidence of marijuana flushed in the toilet, a scale and packaging material. Menton was then arrested for eluding, driving while barred, and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

The other chase began shortly after 3am today (Thursday), near Arlington Street and Logan Avenue in Waterloo.

After police attempted to pull over the car, the driver sped off, before crashing 2 blocks away into a garage.

The occupants fled on foot, but police caught 3 of the juveniles, detaining them for interference and violations of curfew. The incident remains under investigation.
