Grandview College of Des Moines is celebrating a national football championship. The Vikings secured the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) title on Saturday, beating the University of The Cumberlands 35-23 in Rome, GA.

Grand View is coached by Mike Woodley -- a Waterloo native and East High School graduate who earned All-American honors while playing at the University of Northern Iowa in the early 1970s.

Woodley has spent 32 of his 37 years coaching in Iowa and is a member of the Iowa High School Coaches Association, East High School and UNI Halls of Fame. He started the program at Grand View in 2007.

The national title is the first for the school, which finished the season 14-0.
