A Waterloo woman has been seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident in Bremer County.

Bremer County sheriff’s officials were called out to intersection of U.S. Highway 63 and 250th Street, just north of Denver around 11 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 6, 2017).

Authorities said a car driven by Kay Michel, 61, of Waterloo, was in the process of pulling into the intersection, when her vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a semi tractor-trailer, driven by Russell Schmitz, 57, of Wellsburg.

Michel was initially taken to UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital in Waterloo with serious injuries; she was later flown to University Hospitals in Iowa City. Schmitz was not hurt.
