Park and get inside as fast as you safely can.

Waterloo Mayor Quentin Hart has shut off the parking meters in the downtown Waterloo area due to the extreme cold weather. Effective immediately, all parking meters in downtown will be shut off until 5 PM Friday, February 1st.

Mayor Hart said in a statement, "The heavy amounts of snow and extreme temperatures are making the most common tasks dangerous. Suspending the meters will make it quicker and easier for those doing business and living downtown to get out off the cold. This is one way we can help our residents and visitors be as safe as possible during this extreme weather event."

The downtown Waterloo parking meters will be back into effect Monday morning.

City officials also said in the statement, "The City of Waterloo thanks citizens and patrons of our downtown area for their cooperation, patients and understanding as crews continue to clear streets from this most recent snowfall."

Remember if you are in any downtown Waterloo parking space or ramp, you can call (319) 291-0145 for tire fills, jump starts or a security escort free of charge.
