A Waterloo man is facing charges in connection with a stabbing that occurred Tuesday afternoon.

Officials have arrested Alex Hollingsworth, 25, on charges of going armed with intent, willful injury and violation of a protective order.

Waterloo police began their investigation of the incident when the victim arrived at a local hospital seeking treatment for a stab wound. Investigators believe the stabbing occurred in the vicinity of Fletcher and Falls avenues shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday (March 31, 2015).

The victim, Robert Fowler-Ortiz, 29, reported that he was driving to a local hospital to seek treatment for a stab wound, when the incident happened. Fowler-Ortiz told police that he was driving on U.S. Highway 218 when Hollingsworth flashed a knife at him.

Both men allegedly stopped their vehicles on the Fletcher Avenue overpass and got out. Hollingsworth stabbed Fowler-Ortiz at that time, police said.

According to police, Fowler-Ortiz was stabbed one time in the torso. He was treated for a puncture wound on the left side of his rib cage.

Officers found Hollingsworth and took him into custody shortly after the incident occurred.
