A Waterloo man is charged with vehicular homicide in connection with an accident that killed a man who was sleeping in his bed earlier this year.

According to court records, Weadeh Tucker, 25, was driving drunk on June 29th when he lost control of his sport utility vehicle (SUV) and crashed into a home on the southern edge of the city. The SUV left Dysart Road (County Road V-37) around 12:30 a.m., entered a ditch, and struck the back of a house at 5547 Summerland Drive.

Waterloo police said Milo "Mike" Van Schoyck, 84, suffered a head injury when the SUV broke through a wall and hit the bed he was sleeping in. Van Schoyck later died of his injuries at a hospital on July 3.

Tucker allegedly admitted to investigators that he had been drinking before the accident occurred. Tests showed his blood alcohol content was .246, nearly three times the legal limit to drive.

Authorities arrested Tucker on an unrelated charge immediately after the accident. He's been in the Black Hawk County jail since then.

On Tuesday (Oct. 6, 2015), Tucker was arrested on a warrant charging him in the case.
