An agriculture-related business is closing it's doors in Waterloo.

Minnesota-based Syngenta announced to their employees today (Thursday), that the soybean seed production plant, located on Ida Street in Waterloo, will shut down officially on July 1st of 2016.

The facility has 13 employees, all of which will lose their jobs. However, workers will have the chance to apply for positions within the company, at other locations.

According to a news release from the company, the Waterloo plant's closure is part of it's strategy for the company's seed production capacity needs.

The building will be put up for sale.

The Syngenta plant has been in Waterloo since 1948.
