Wartburg Baseball Team Gets Invitation To NCAA Regional Tournament

The Wartburg baseball team is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the 12th time in program history.

The 12th-ranked Knights (32-12 overall) learned that they received one of the 16 at-large bids into the 56-team field early this morning (Monday, May 11, 2015).

Wartburg will compete in the Central Regional, which the Knights are hosting at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo. The five-day, double-elimination tournament begins Wednesday and runs through Saturday.

Five teams are coming to the Cedar Valley for the NCAA Regional. Joining Wartburg in Waterloo will be Anderson (Ind.), Carthage (Wis.), Greenville (Ill.), Webster (Mo). and Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

This marks the first time the NCAA Central Regional is being played in the state of Iowa.

The exact match-ups for the games are yet to be announced by the NCAA. Three games will be played on Wednesday, starting at noon, 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The regional champion earns a trip to the NCAA Division-III College World Series in Appleton, Wis., May 22-26.

Wartburg won the Iowa Conference (IIAC) regular-season title, but had to rely on an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after falling to Coe, 12-7, in the championship game of the IIAC Tournament in Cedar Rapids on Saturday.
