A single-vehicle accident in southern Black Hawk County sent a Vinton man to the hospital Wednesday afternoon (May 11, 2016).

The Iowa State Patrol said Ronald Marovec, 59, was injured when he fell asleep behind the wheel of his pick-up truck. The eastbound vehicle crossed the center line and entered a ditch, before going over an intersecting road and coming to rest near an embankment.

The crash occurred around 1 p.m. at the intersection of W. Tama Road (County Road D-53) and Ansborough Ave, approximately 15 miles south of Waterloo.

Marovec was transported to a Waterloo hospital to be treated for his injuries.
