Authorities have released the name of the woman killed when her bicycle was struck by a car in Black Hawk County Monday morning (July 2, 2018).

Sheriff's officials have identified the victim as Connie Inks, 54, of Waterloo. Authorities said she was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The crash happened shortly after 6 AM on U.S. Highway 218 on the northern edge of Washburn, south of Waterloo.

According to sheriff's officials, Inks' bicycle was struck by a car that was driven by Joshua Summerhays, 39, also of Waterloo. The bicycle and car were were both going southbound at the time of the crash, authorities said.

The accident closed U.S. Highway 218 between County Road D-38 (Washburn Road) and County Road D-34 (E. Orange Road) for about three-and-a-half hours Monday morning.

Black Hawk County sheriff's officials and the Iowa State Patrol continue to investigate the mishap. So far, no charges have been filed.
