If you routinely drive on University Ave on the Waterloo side, you'll notice some changes as of today, September 29. KWWL reports the project has entered phase 2. So what does this mean if you drive University? Here what is changing with the new phase:

  • From Progress Ave. to Tunis Dr., there's no longer traffic running head-to-head
  • Progress Ave.: Lanes on each side remain closed
  • You will notice the lanes are head-to-head on westbound lanes to Greenhill Rd.
  • The  eastbound exit ramp to Greenhill Rd. off University Ave. is closed

The plan according to the report is for the head-to-head projects to be completed before winter, however, if it's not, safety measures will be taken to insure drivers can still utilize these routes under construction. The entire University project is expected to be completed by early fall 2021. Again, a great deal depends on the weather. If you take University on a regular basis, you likely feel like this project has already lasted several years but, as is the case with most roadwork, it will likely be better than it was before the work started once completed.

If you're a visual person, like me, this video the city created may be the easiest way to understand what the project is suppose to look like:
