UNI Wrestling Opens 2014-2015 Season at Central Missouri Open

UNI wrestling will open its season on the road with the UCM Open at Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri.  The event is scheduled for Sunday November 16, 2014.

Most of the Panther team will travel to compete.

UNI is looking to build off its undefeated dual season from 2013-14 where the team placed 15th at the NCAA national championships.

Last year, the Panthers were the only Division I wrestling team to complete a perfect dual season (13-0). They knocked off five opponents in the top 25, including No. 4 Oklahoma and No. 7 Missouri.

On November 23, the team will travel to West Lafayette, IN for a triangular meet against Purdue and Indiana Tech.  The Panthers will have their first meet in the West Gym on Saturday, November 29 against Iowa Central C.C.

PANTHER COMPETITORS:
The Panthers return All-American Dylan Peters and four other NCAA national qualifiers with Blaize Cabell, Cody Caldwell, Cooper Moore and Levi Wolfensperger.

A small graduating 2014 class of just five wrestlers, means several veterans return for the UNI squad, including Wolfensperger, who was one round away from being an All-American at the 2013 NCAA Tournament in the 133-pound weight class.

All nine freshmen placed at the state championships in 2014, with eight of them placing in the top three. The freshman class includes a four-time state prep champion (Josh Alber), a three-time All-American (Adarios Jones) and two more state champions (Tucker Black and Adam Drain).

The UNI Panthers wrestling team is picked to finish third in the Mid-American Conference.

UNI TICKETS:
UNI wrestling is expected to have a record number of sell-outs for the 2014-15 season.

Last year, the program saw its biggest jump in attendance in at least 14 seasons, posting the ninth highest numbers in the nation. Four home duals in the West Gym were sell-outs (2,060).
