Two University of Northern Iowa Panthers wrestlers stayed perfect in dual competition, but the wrestling team fell 19-12 to Central Michigan on Sunday, January 25, 2015.

UNI falls to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in the MAC. CMU improves to 6-5 overall and 4-1 in the MAC.

Dylan Peters got the Panthers on the board in the first match at 125 pounds before the Chippewas would go on a four-match run to gain a 12-3 lead. Cooper Moore stopped the streak at 165 pounds. UNI would go on to get wins from Basil Minto and Blaize Cabell.

Moore improved to 7-0 in dual competition, and Cabell is now 11-0 in duals. Peters and Minto remain perfect in the MAC at 4-0.

UP NEXT: UNI stays on the road for another MAC matchup with No. 3 Missouri. It will be the third top-10 team the Panthers have faced this season. The dual is set for 7:00 PM-CT on January 31. The Panthers are on the road until Feb. 20 when they host Old Dominion in the final dual of the season.

No. 5 Peters struck first in the 125-pound match with two quick takedowns off the start and a restart against Brent Fleetwood. He earned two minutes and 42 seconds in riding time in the first period. Peters locked up riding time and headed into the third period up 6-3. An escape and 2:57 in riding time gave Peters the 8-3 decision.

Leighton Gaul (133 pounds) fought off a first-period takedown but fell to Tyler Keselring, 5-1.

Jake Hodges kept the match tight against CMU’s top wrestler, No. 12 Zach Horan. He tied it up with an escape in the third to make it 1-1, but Horan got a takedown to go up 3-1. Hodges got an escape, but Horan was able to hold on for the 3-2 decision win at 141 pounds.

At 149 pounds, No. 32 Gunnar Wolfensperger was able to erase No. 17 Colin Heffernan’s riding time in the second, but he gave up a reversal and slipped to 4-0. Heffernan regained his riding time and gave up an escape but went on to win 5-1.

Jarrett Jensen took Cody LeCount into overtime, but LeCount got the takedown in sudden victory to win 3-1 at 157 pounds.

After a scoreless first period, Moore gained control of the match and earned more than two minutes in riding time to win 6-3.

Curt Maas was able to avoid a pin from Jordan Ellingwood in the second period at 174 pounds, but Ellingwood would go on to get a major decision, winning 11-2.

Cody Caldwell trailed 5-3 after nearly getting pinned by CJ Brucki in the first period of the 184-pound match. Caldwell narrowed the gap with an escape in the second period. Brucki escaped early in the third to secure his riding time and win 9-4.

It was a rematch at 197 pounds between UNI’s Minto and Jackson Lewis. Minto was able to avenge a loss from last year to Jackson. He went up 4-0 at the start of the third. Lewis got a takedown but released Minto, who had secured riding time. Minto went on to win 8-2.

Cabell grabbed five takedowns in the first two periods to grab the 11-6 win over Adam Robinson at heavyweight.
