UNI is deemed one of the safest college campuses in the country.

Compiled by the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting and the Campus Security Survey created by the U.S. Department of Education, UNI ranks 30th out of 243 for the 2018 list of "Safest College Campuses in America" list according to alarms.org.

"In today's context, families are naturally worried about safety in schools and on campuses," said Paula Knudson UNI vice president for Student Affairs. "We have many safety measures in place at UNI and are vigilant about providing bystander training and interventions in a timely fashion. UNI prioritizes all aspects of student well-being and success. You can't be your best if you are worried or fearful, and we want our students to be able to be their best."

A school's safety score was based on crimes reported by universities including rapes, robberies, assaults, burglaries, motor vehicle theft and arson per 1,000 students.
