Construction work currently underway on University Ave. in Cedar Falls will require a shift in traffic flow beginning Tuesday (March 8, 2016).

According to city officials, storm sewer installation will force westbound traffic on University Ave. between Valley Park and Tucson Drives to be shifted to the south side of the road. University will remain open at all times, but traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction for the next two weeks, depending on the weather.

Access to Valley Park Dr. from the north side of University Ave. -- near Holiday Plaza -- will be prohibited during this time, city officials said. Crews started installing water main along the south side of University last week, work that is limiting traffic access to College Square Mall.

The water main and storm sewer projects are part of the initial phase of a $32.5 million reconstruction of University Avenue in Cedar Falls. Six roundabouts are being added to the former U.S. Highway 218 corridor and the road is being narrowed from six lanes to four. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in 2018.
