Life lessons go beyond the playing field. A moment of compassion and sportsmanship didn't go unnoticed at the Grundy Center-Wapsie Valley high school football game Friday night (September 26th, 2014).

Moments after a Wapsie Valley player collapsed on the field with an injury and was rushed away in an ambulance, photographer Justin Scott of J Scott Images in Manchester captured this act of kindness with his camera.

The picture shows Grundy Center junior Jordan Graham (#32, white jersey in front) and senior Jordan Stoner (#84, white jersey in back) embracing Wapsie Valley freshman Jake Kuhlman (#49, black jersey) as the teams were leaving the field following the game.

According to Scott, the injury left many players and fans from both teams visibly shaken. A few were in tears during the final seconds of the game, which Wapsie Valley won 21-17.

On his facebook post, Scott describes the moment: "Despite the fact that his team had just lost in dramatic fashion, this Grundy Center player (Graham) immediately approached his opponent once the final horn sounded and hugged him without any hesitation. It was a truly remarkable sight and one I have not seen in my 15 years of photographing high school sports!"

It's not always important who wins the game. Sometimes, as Grundy Center has proven, you can be a winner in defeat too!!
