Jason Manus, the former mayor of Oelwein, will be put on trial starting next week, on several charges of sexual abuse involving two young girls.

The 36 year old Manus resigned as Oelwein's mayor in August, after he was arrested for five counts of sexual abuse, involving a 9 year old girl and a 14 year old girl. The incidents allegedly happened at an Oelwein home, apparently some at Manus' residence, in 2010. He is also accused of telling the girls not to tell anyone what happened.

Manus has pleaded not guilty to four counts of third degree sexual abuse and one count of second degree sex abuse; his trial is slated to begin Wednesday, October 22nd in Fayette County district court in West Union.

An earlier pre-trial conference for Manus had to be postponed, after Manus' defense attorney died.
