The end of the school year means the loss of meals for some children in Northeast Iowa. The loss of two meals a day that were once provided as free or reduced cost can present a big challenge to some families in our community.

The Food Bank will be providing FREE meals to youth over the summer. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

Meals will be provided at the sites and times as follows: YWCA and Kittrell Elementary School June 1-5 and August 17-21 at noon, Boys and Girls Club, Waterloo, August 17-21 at noon, Salvation Army beginning June 15 and ending August 21, breakfast at 10:00 a.m. and lunch at 12:30 p.m., and the Boys and Girls Club in Evansdale starting June 15 and ending August 21 with a 3:30 p.m. snack time.

The Food Bank provides eight programs that serve the community-Member Agency Distribution, Cedar Valley Food Pantry, the BackPack Program, Kids Cafe, Elderly Nutrition, Mobile Food Pantries, Summer Feeding and a Community Garden. Encompassing all of these programs is nutrition education. The Food Bank is a member of the Iowa Food Bank Association and Feeding America.
