The Tri-City Storm seized the lead over the Waterloo Black Hawks thanks to two first period goals. They never looked back winning 3-2 at the Viaero Events Center on Saturday, December 10, 2015.

For the second consecutive night, the Black Hawks struck for an early goal, converting a power play at 1:11. Tyler Sheehy slung the puck from the right circle through the slot and found Henrik Rommel dashing to the net to score on a redirection. The Storm answered on a power play of their own, with a third-chance rebound from close range, flipped in by Chase Berger at 5:30. From similar range, Tri-City struck again to take the lead at 11:32, when Jake Wahlin put back a rebound chance.

Trevor Gorsuch kept the Black Hawks within one goal during a busy second period. He turned away 16 Storm chances, several in special teams situations as the league’s top power play unit was on the ice twice during the frame.

The Storm scored a crucial insurance goal 4:54 into the third period when Wade Allison rifled a chance from the right circle into the net, set up by Matthew Freytag. Tri-City thought they had put the game out of reach with another goal at 14:15, but the play was disallowed because the puck had been batted by a high stick. Just 17 seconds later, Tom Novak redirected Hayden Shaw’s shot from the left point, but the Hawks could not score an equalizer in the five minutes which remained.

NEXT UP: After two weekend road games in central Nebraska, the Black Hawks ride the bus for two more games next weekend, rolling to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to visit the Stampede next Friday and Saturday.
