An early morning, single vehicle accident in Black Hawk County sent one to the hospital on Thursday (10/16/2014).

Black Hawk County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a single vehicle accident this morning (Thursday, Oct. 16th) on Independence Ave.

According to the Sheriff's report, a minivan driven by 29 year old Sara Staley of Waterloo, was heading west on Independence Avenue when she lost control of her vehicle.  The vehicle went into the ditch and struck a driveway drainage culvert.

Staley was trapped in the vehicle for a short time, but was eventually helped out by the residents of the nearby house.  Staley's three children were also in the vehicle at the time.

All three children and Staley were transported to a local hospital. Staley sustained facial and head injuries.  The children appeared to have only minor bumps and bruises.

The accident remains under investigation.

Waterloo Fire and Rescue assisted the Sheriff's Deputies at the scene.
