A one-vehicle accident near Clarksville, has taken the life of a Shell Rock man.

It happened at about 7:00 PM Thursday (Oct. 27) on Butler County Road C-33, east of Clarksville.

A pickup, driven by 44 year old Matthew DeWitt of Shell Rock, was eastbound on C-33, when the vehicle drifted off the road, and into a ditch, where it crashed into a box culvert.

A passenger, 41 year old Jeffrey DeWitt of Shell Rock, was killed in the accident; the driver, Matthew DeWitt, along with another passenger, 28 year old Andrew Baker of Waverly, were taken to the Waverly Hospital for treatment. There is no word on their conditions.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Butler County Sheriff, Clarksville Police, Clarksville Fire and EMS, and Waverly EMS.
