Rory Feek has found a special way to keep the legacy of his late wife, Joey Feek, alive: He has put together a documentary about their life together.

In a post on his blog, This Life I Live, Rory Feek explains that he spent a day -- his and his wife's wedding anniversary, June 15 -- with his daughter Hopie visiting the small town of Mt. Pleasant, Tenn., where he and Joey Feek first met, and where they held their wedding reception.

"I have had lots of time these last few months to think about what anniversary gift I wanted to give to my wife this year -- what act of service I could do, that would matter to her -- if she were here," Rory Feek writes. "So with the help of some friends, I am going to try to give her a gift that is pretty much impossible … To live on, even after she’s gone."

The Feeks' friend Ben runs Provident Films in Nashville, and when Rory Feek shared some of the footage he'd shot of his wife through the years, the filmmaker and his team offered to help turn all of it into a documentary. According to Feek, the full-length film, titled To Joey, With Love, will begin just before the birth of daughter Indiana in February of 2014 and run through last spring -- "a film about our lives during that two-and-a-half years. Our love. Our struggles. And even more so, about our faith in God and our hope in a plan ... bigger than the one we can see with our own eyes."

Feek says that he "wept like a baby" at his wife's grave when he played the documentary's trailer (which readers can watch above); he has also shared it with Joey Feek's family, who were equally touched.

"Most people know Joey and I for the five months we spent in Indiana -- the beautiful, terrible days and weeks last fall and winter that we intimately shared through my blog posts. They got to see Joey die. To see her face death bravely and pass to the other side with honor," Rory Feek writes. "But I’d like for people to have the chance to see my wife live. To see the incredible woman that she was before the doctors said there was nothing more they could do … so they can better understand the amazing impact she’s had on me and everyone around her after she learned that the end was coming."

To Joey, With Love will be in theaters for one night only, Sept. 20. Fans can visit the film's official website for more information.

After being diagnosed with terminal cancer in the summer of 2015, Joey Feek passed away on March 4, 2016. This documentary is the fulfillment of a wish she shared with her husband before her death: Rory Feek has said that his wife “talked to me about how she wants me to continue to tell our story and other stories.”
