Regional High School Softball Scores - Tuesday, July 14, 2015

It's rare for a softball team to win a game with only one hit, but that's exactly what Waverly-Shell Rock did Tuesday night (July 14, 2015). The Go-Hawks earned their fifth trip to the state tournament with a thrilling 1-0 victory over West Delaware in a Class-4A regional final played at Waverly.

Waverly-Shell Rock scored the game's only run on a squeeze bunt in the second inning. The 10th-ranked Go-Hawks' only hit was a two-out single by starting pitcher Sara Demuth in the third inning. In the circle, Demuth recorded nine strikeouts and one walk.

The victory avenged Waverly-Shell Rock's heart-breaking loss to the Hawks in the 2014 regional final. A year ago, West Delaware ended a 25-year state tournament absence with an 11-inning, 2-1 win over the Go-Hawks in the regional title game.

Waverly-Shell Rock (34-5) next faces 13th-ranked Creston (26-6) in the state quarterfinals at 1 p.m. Monday (July 20).

The 2015 state softball tournament begins Monday and continues through Friday, July 24th at Rogers Park in Fort Dodge.
