Randy Travis, Wife Offer Great News About His Health and Music [Watch]
The country music community has thrown its arms around Randy Travis and his wife Mary, championing for the singer’s return to health after a devastating stroke in 2013. Based on a new interview, it looks like things are moving in a positive direction for the superstar.
Sitting down with Life Today, Travis and his wife reveal that his heart is in “near perfect” condition after a virus made its way to the organ, causing the stroke and landing Travis in rehab every day for more than two years. In addition, Travis is beginning to relearn speech and walking stronger, an outcome his doctors initially viewed as nearly impossible.
“It got to the point where they had given up hope, but the beautiful thing was, Randy… Randy and God have this thing going on,” Mary says. “He’s so brave, so courageous. He never once gave up.” But even better news is that the beloved singer offers a strong “yes” when asked if music still comes to him.

The “1982” singer has had a prominent presence on the country music scene in his days following the stroke, taking time to visit and support fellow artists, with Mary faithfully by his side each time. He surprised the crowd at CMA Fest when he joined Michael Ray onstage to perform “Forever and Ever, Amen.”
He’s also paid visits to young stars like Scotty McCreery and Kane Brown, surprising McCreery backstage before a show and offering a welcomed interruption while Brown sang “Three Wooden Crosses” during a radio performance.
