Continuing reconstruction work in Waverly has forced the closure of Iowa Highway 3 near the Wartburg College campus, beginning Monday, April 30, 2018.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, the railroad crossing on Bremer Ave. near 12th St. NW is being replaced. A marked detour is directing traffic onto 10th Ave. SW and 4th St. SW, which is the former route of U.S. Highway 218. Waverly city officials said local traffic can also use 2nd Ave. SW as an alternative route.

The railroad track project is also effecting traffic on Wilson Ave., north of Bremer. According to city officials, Wilson is also closed at the railroad crossing and motorists should use 5th Ave. SW.

IDOT officials said Bremer and Wilson avenues will be closed for about four weeks. Both railroad crossings are expected to open around May 18, weather permitting.

The reconstruction of Iowa 3 through Waverly currently has highway traffic reduced to one lane in each direction on the east side of town. City officials are reminding eastbound motorists to follow pavement markings on Bremer Ave. after crossing the Cedar River bridge into the construction area.

According to city officials, vehicles in the left lane must turn left onto 1st St. East. Vehicles in the RIGHT LANE can go straight or turn right.
