A prison inmate serving time for a crime she committed in Black Hawk County has died.

Iowa Department of Corrections officials said Anna Bunch, 56, was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines for an undisclosed emergency on Monday (Dec. 31, 2018). They confirmed that Bunch died of natural causes that evening at the hospital.

According to corrections officials, Bunch had been serving two 25-year maximum sentences after being convicted of attempted murder nearly eight years ago. Her sentence began on Nov. 7, 2012.

Court record show that Bunch was found guilty of shooting at her brother and sister at Bunch's Waterloo apartment in May, 2010.

Bunch had been serving her sentence at the Iowa Correctional Institute For Women in Mitchellville.
