A police chase ended with a crash and two arrests in Waterloo Tuesday night (Jan. 31, 2017).

According to police, the pursuit began shortly after 10 p.m. when an officer patrolling downtown spotted a sport utility vehicle that had just been reported stolen from a convenience store on Broadway St. Police attempted to stop the SUV near W. 5th and Washington streets, but the driver took off. The chase ended a short time later when the SUV slammed into a light pole near the intersection of La Porte Road and E. Ridgeway Ave.

Police said the two occupants inside the SUV both tried to run from the scene. They were caught by officers.

Ka’Leck Bolden, 18, of Cedar Rapids, was taken into custody on the following charges: second-degree theft, third-degree theft, eluding, driving while suspended and interference. Police also detained a 17-year-old passenger who was wanted by authorities in Linn County.
