Officials have identified the victim killed in a two-vehicle accident on an icy Black Hawk County highway Wednesday morning (Dec. 2, 2015).

According to sheriff's officials, Alexis Behrends, 21, of Dunkerton, was killed when her vehicle crossed the center line and struck an on-coming vehicle head-on. She died at the scene, while the driver, Darlene Hammond, 48, of Hudson, was not injured.

The accident happened shortly after 5:30 a.m. on East Dunkerton Road (County Road C-66), about a half-mile east of North Raymond Road (V-49) northeast of Waterloo.

Sheriff's officials believe road conditions may have contributed to the accident. They said the pavement was almost completely ice-covered when the crash occurred.
