Northeast Iowa Business Destroyed by Fire

A once thriving business in New Hampton has apparently succumbed to a fire.

Fire crews were called out at about 2 a.m. today, to Dungey's Furniture and Floors in New Hampton. Virtually every fire department in Chickasaw County responded. Firefighters from the seven departments found the main store and storage building behind it, engulfed.

Iowa Highway 24 was closed down to let fire crews battle the blaze. Traffic is being re-routed through a city park.

Dungey's has been in New Hampton since 1963.

There are no reported injuries. A cause has not yet been determined, and a dollar figure on the damage is not yet available.

Firefighters are still at the scene.
