A death involving a Northeast Iowa man on the river near Charles City, is under investigation.

The incident happened late Saturday afternoon, just south of Charles City on the Cedar River.

63 year old Steven Daykin of Dubuque, was tubing on the river with his wife. He apparently got off his tube, went under, then started yelling for help.

Others who were tubing on the river at the time, were able to get Daykin to shore; he was taken to the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City, but later was pronounced dead.

According to authorities at the Floyd County Sheriff's office, Daykin did know how to swim.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
