An Oelwein man has been arrested for allegedly striking another man in the face with a baseball bat, sending him to the hospital.

The incident happened Tuesday, shortly after 1pm; the Fayette County Sheriff was notified of a disturbance at a rural Oelwein residence.

When deputies arrived, they arrested 39 year old James Wright of rural Oelwein on a charge of willful injury.

An investigation determined that Wright struck 35 year old Robert Elliott of Oelwein, in the face with a baseball bat. Elliott was initially taken to Mercy hospital in Oelwein, and later transferred to University Hospitals in Iowa City. A condition report was not available.

Wright is also being charged with violation of a no-contact order and a probation violation warrant on an original charge of domestic assault.

Officers also arrested 34 year old Flora Mae Epley on a charge of simple assault at the scene; she is accused of assaulting a minor female, in front of the Fayette county deputies.
Wright and Epley were taken to the Fayette County jail; the sheriff was assisted by the Oelwein police department.
