The Oelwein City Council is once again looking to fill a seat.

At this week's regular meeting, Third Ward Councilman Jim Peterson tendered his resignation.

Mayor Peggy Sherrets read Peterson's letter of resignation to the rest of the council Monday night. Peterson has decided to step down due to health concerns.

Peterson has been on the Oelwein City council since January of 2012.

Peterson indicated his resignation was effective immediately, however since it was not on the regular agenda, the council has set a special session to formally accept the resignation on January 19th.

At that time, the council will discuss their options on filling the vacancy: by appointment or special election.

Peterson's current term would have expired in November of 2016.

Oelwein citizens living in the Third Ward, interested in filling the council seat, are encouraged to contact the city hall.
