The sexual abuse trial of former Oelwein mayor Jason Manus continues today.

On Friday, the defense called witnesses to the stand, including Manus' wife, Teresa. She testified that she had never witnessed her husband act inappropriately with two young girls who claim they were abused by Manus.

Teresa noted that the girls, who were 9 and 14 when the alleged incidents took place in 2010, had visited the Manus home, and showed the court pictures that were taken of the two at their home, before and after the time the incident apparently happened.

She also stated that Jason, who worked as a heavy equipment operator, would often be out of town with his job.

A babysitter and two care workers who helped with the Manus' disabled daughter were also called to the stand and testified that they did not witness any inappropriate behavior.

The defense has rested it's case, and now the prosecution will call rebuttal witnesses.

Manus is charged with one count of second degree sexual abuse and 4 counts of third degree sex abuse; he resigned as Oelwein's mayor just days after being charged.
