Miranda Lambert is wrapping up a very fruitful 2016. The singer released her sixth studio album, The Weight of These Wings, this year and found herself atop many year-end best album lists. The album is the product of a songwriting binge during a painful period.

In a new video posted to Instagram, the singer reveals that she wrote many more songs than she used for the double album and shares some insight into her creative process.

"There's a lot of reasons it is a double album," she says. "No. 1, I moved to Nashville after not living here for 10 years. I've made so many great friends and cultivated relationships over the years, even not living here through writing for records and being part of the community even from far."

The Real Meaning Behind Miranda Lambert's "Vice"

Lambert moved to Nashville following her divorce from Blake Shelton, and says once she settled in Music City she had a lot of fuel to write with.

"I was going through probably one of the hardest times in my life, so what better to do than to use that pain for your art? I dove in as hard as I could and I wrote about 72 songs," she explains. "These 24 showed themselves to be what needed to be said right now."

Lambert's lead single from The Weight of These Wings was "Vice," a song that has been nominated for two Grammy Awards in the Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song categories at the 59th annual ceremony in February.

"To have such a personal song as #vice be nominated means the world," she posted after the Grammy nominations were announced.

Lambert will undertake her Highway Vagabond Tour in 2017, including a special stop at Hunter Mountain in June for a headlining performance at the Taste of Country Music Festival.
